Not that I’m going to end up buying it, but I’ve been the high bidder for several days:

(Apparently Kinja keeps eating the link.)

No link?

If no one bids in the next 5 hours, you might be buying it.

I did include the link. Kinja must’ve eaten it.
I’m pretty sure the reserve is above my max given some of the seller comments.

That is beautiful. I don’t follow BaT enough, are you likely to get outbid at the last nanosecond like on ebay? I’m sure it’s better than buying a used cell phone on ebay, but I’m curious. Your bid seems reasonable...

That’s a stunning car. I’ve always loved the E34, and that looks like a really special one. Good luck—

BAT resets the timer in the last few minutes of each auction (5 minutes? maybe 10?) each time a bid is submitted to prevent sniping. Some people still try to lob in a bid right before the deadline but that doesn’t really help.

Oh that’s brilliant. Well, personally I hope you win.

Getting outbid at the last nanosecond is why I stopped using eBay.
It was just too annoying... and even more annoying was the “people” outbidding me end up “backing out” and then the seller gives me a “second chance” to buy it at my last highest bid... a price that got bid up due to the bullshit bogus bids from bullshit bogus bidders.

Damn it, now you’re making me want an e34.

Many years ago now a friend was trying to sell some half-broken VW Vanagon and wasn’t happy with the bids. He called me and asked me to bid on it. I was like, what if I win? He says, well, nothing. You’re just making sure I don’t have to sell it for its current price. I’m like, isn’t that was a reserve is for? He says, that scares away bidders.
At that moment, I realized this could happen to any ebay auction, and in fact, it probably DOES, and you don’t even need a friend to do it. I don’t think I’ve bought a single thing on auction - some Buy It Now prices for random things are still the cheapest around - since then.

Did you end up getting it?
